Kerrang double page spread

The Kerrang double page spread mainly consist of one image of the band featured along with text and headings. The overall layout of the magazine o.k. since the one image takes up about 75% of the page and the rest is left for the text. This wouldn’t be such as bad thing but the problem is that the image is just one image of the band featured which leaves a lot of empty spaces on the double page spread. The image itself is as nice mid-shot of the band members at different distance with good use of angle on gaze, however as I previously mention the image has a blank background which leaves a lot of empty space and can make the double page seem life-less and rather boring.

As for the text the heading font is very big and bold using red to make it stand out. The font also has a unique style which helps it to stand out even more. It also reflects the content of the article in both words and style and can easily be associated with the general audience since the article is about rehab and drugs and other stuff which is what most teenagers/young adults are having problems with. However the text used in the main article is rather small but has a unique style rather than an ordinary font which can make it stand out a little bit more. Also I like the fact that the text is featured on a note pad, it doesn’t really add anything but it is a nice touch.

The magazine does make use of alteration (“but behind the scenes, the bassist was battling an addiction... ”) but it misses out on other key aspects like rhetorical questions, rhyming and so on. The language used is much adult oriented since words like shit and fucking are used frequently which helps to shows the more adult content the magazine offers.
